Busy Year for all Butler Choir Groups

Symphonic Choir

At Butler High School we are fortunate to have multiple choir groups.  We have the Concert Choir, 9th-grade students; the Women’s Choir, 10th-grade girls; the Symphonic Choir, 10th through 12th-grade students; and the Chamber Choir, the after school choir group.

All of our choirs have been extremely busy this school year.  In addition to the usual fall, winter, and spring concerts, our choirs have performed at many other events.

In December, the Women’s Choir, the Chamber Choir, and the Symphonic Choir performed at each of the district schools to showcase the variety of vocal ensembles available at the high school level.

In January, the Women’s Choir and the Chamber Choir performed four different selections for the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) Solo and Ensemble event at Stebbins High School.  The Women’s Choir received one Superior rating and one Excellent rating, while the Chamber Choir received two Superior ratings.

In March, the Women’s and Symphonic Choirs performed at the OMEA Large Group contest. The Women’s Choir received an Excellent rating, and the Symphonic Choir received a Superior rating. This performance qualified the Symphonic Choir for the OMEA State Large Group Contest.

The Symphonic Choir competed in the OMEA State Contest on April 21, at Tippecanoe High School where they received another Superior rating.  This Superior rating earned them the school’s tenth Superior plaque at the State level.

Also in March, the Symphonic Choir visited New York City. During this trip, students participated in a Broadway workshop, where they worked with a Broadway performer from the musical Wicked.  Also, while in New York, the choirs performed at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, saw the musicals Aladdin and Wicked, toured Radio City Music Hall and did lots of sightseeing.

Butler High school, as well as all the choir members, are very thankful for the financial assistance they received from a variety of local organizations.  A special thank you to: the Vandalia Lion’s Club, Morton and Whetstone Funeral Home, Crossroads Coins, Beau Townsend Ford, Beckstrom Orthodontics, Visions Foundation, Ken’s Drugs, and Hoagies Pizza House.

Join us Monday, May 8, in the Butler Performing Arts Theatre for the last choir performances of this school year.  The annual spring concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. There is no cost to attend.  All choirs will be featured, including our newer vocal pop group “Sound of Flight.”

We look forward to seeing you there.  #WeAreAviators
